Pretoria - A 58-year-old pilot and her 57-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries when their light aircraft crashed next to a graveyard, west of Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, on Tuesday morning.

Captain Maano Sadiki of the Makhado Police said the aircraft took off at the Tshikota airstrip at around 7am, but failed to gain altitude.

"The female pilot and her passenger were enroute to Musina when the light aircraft failed to gain altitude and it crash land into the bushes next to the Tshikota graveyard," he said, adding that the pilot was able to control the aircraft until it came to a halt.

Sadiki said both occupants sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the local hospital.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the cause of the crash
