Two days left for W Cape remarking reques

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Pretoria - Western Cape learners who wish to submit requests for remarking of their 2010 matric exam scripts have until 21 January to do so.

Provincial education spokesperson, Bronagh Casey, noted that 792 candidates narrowly missed by 1 percent in the exams.

The department believed that once requests for remarking have been met and the supplementary examinations completed, there is every chance they would have met or exceeded the province's 2 000 additional passes target for 2010.

The Western Cape, which had targeted an 80 percent pass rate, managed to achieve 76.8 percent during the exams.

In assisting learners who qualify for supplementary exams, the department will be offering a revision programme during February and March 2011.

The province has 8 433 candidates who qualify for supplementary examinations.

The revision programme starts on 1 February until 13 March 2011 and will be held at 118 school centres across the province from 3pm to 5pm on weekdays and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays.

"Lessons will be conducted by experienced Grade 12 teachers through live broadcasts to selected centres in the eight education districts of the province and subjects to be offered include Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Geography, Life Sciences, English First Additional Language and Afrikaans Home Language."

Learners who wish to take part in the programme are encouraged to register by 25 January 2011. Information on where they can register can be found on the department's website, or they can contact their former school for further information.

Candidates wishing to register for the supplementary examinations or for a remark can contact the exams helpline on 021 467 2300 or visit the Clients Service Centre on the second floor of the Grand Central Building, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town.

The supplementary examination starts on 14 February 2011.
