TUT campus re-opens for registration

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

Pretoria - Students who have not been able to register for their studies at the Tshwane University of Technology can do so until February 14.

Last week, hundreds of students were evicted from their campus residential areas following a violent protest over a lack of access to funding from the National Students' Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds.

After consultation with the Department of Higher Education and NSFAS, university spokesperson Willa de Ruyter said the institution has lifted all the financial blocks off students so they can register.

The university transferred R10 million from its budget to help academically deserving and financially needy students.

Ruyter said students who qualified for NSFAS funds in 2013, but have failed to sign their contracts, are advised to do so. The online registration system is also accessible 24-hours a day on TUT's website at www.tut.ac.za.

Classes at all TUT campuses, she said, will resume on Wednesday. – SAnews.gov.za
