Pretoria – Siyabonga Gama has been appointed as the new Group Chief Executive Officer for Transnet.

Gama has been acting in the position since April 2015. He succeeds Brian Molefe, who was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Eskom in October last year.

“I wish Gama well as he leads Transnet into further improvement of operational efficiency and sustainability,” Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Gama has spent the past 14 years in various executive positions at Transnet.

“His extensive experience in transport logistics and infrastructure as well as his commitment to transformation has been key considerations in confirming the appointment.

“Transnet is one of the success stories in our portfolio of State-Owned Companies where the fruits of succession planning are evident,” Minister Brown said.

She said Transnet continues to maintain a good track record of being a sustainable State-owned company.

The appointment of Gama will further assist in stabilising the executive leadership of Transnet, Minister Brown said.

He has also done training which includes an Executive Development Programme at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.
