Pretoria - A police colonel with 35 years of service and who was in charge of Gauteng's firearms licences has been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
Colonel Chris Prinsloo of Gauteng FLASH was arrested last Friday in Vereeniging, for theft and illegal possession of 750 rounds of ammunition.
He appeared on Monday in the Vereeniging Magistrate Court and was released on bail of R5 000. He faces being suspended while his trial runs its course.
His arrest, according to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale, follows an investigation that started more than a year ago in the Western Cape.
Makgale said National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Riah Phiyega, is very pleased with the progress made in this investigation and she congratulated the team for a job well done.
“General Riah Phiyega, together with the leadership of the SAPS, wants to ensure that the police who serve the nation do so with highest level of ethical and professional conduct,” Makgale said. – SAnews.gov.za
