Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Renovations and improvements at Thokoza Hostel in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, will start before the end of the week.

Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements, Paul Mashatile, made the announcement after a meeting held with hostel’s Izinduna and its steering committee.

The meeting follows consultations held by the MMC of Human Settlements in Ekurhuleni, Lesiba Mpya and Gauteng Department of Human Settlements officials with the hostel residents.

During the consultations on Monday, MEC Mashatile, including the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Human Settlements, Putus Tseki and hostel leadership discussed renovations and improvements at the hostel, as well as future plans for family units.

“We expect the renovations and improvements of the hostel to start tomorrow,” said MEC Mashatile.

The MEC said the future plans for family units will be discussed with the steering committee of the hostel to ensure residents have an input.

He said the department will also send officials to register hostel residents on the housing database.

MEC Mashatile further assured that residents who applied for housing in 1996 will be prioritised in projects in Ekurhuleni. – SAnews.gov.za
