Pretoria – Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, has welcomed the appointment of Robert Nkuna as the new Director-General for the department.
Minister Cwele said that Nkuna’s appointment contributes to stabilising the department and allowing for more focus on delivering services to the people.
“There is a need to have a stable department that is able to coordinate and mobilise the collective resources of all to ensure we enable the sector to contribute to meaningful socio-economic inclusion. The sector has an important role to play in transforming and modernising our society,” said Minister Cwele.
He added that the department has to ensure that modern communications infrastructure, tools and services are accessible to all citizens and that people are empowered to use the internet to communicate and transact.
Nkuna said his immediate task as Director-General is to introduce systems that would enable the department to implement its mandate efficiently and effectively.
