Pretoria - The upcoming Rural Women's Summit is expected to focus on development programmes to help address poverty among rural women.
Ahead of the opening of the two-day summit on Friday in Limpopo, Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, will visit various rural development projects run by women and people with disabilities around Tzaneen in Mopani District.
The aim of the visit is to gain first-hand information about experiences of women involved in rural development projects.
Xingwana and Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale are expected to address the opening session to be held in the evening at Karibu Lodge near Tzaneen.
Discussions during the second day of the summit will focus on issues affecting women in rural areas; these include funding for rural women projects, access to land, water, market and other business development necessities.
Other issues to be discussed include access to social services such as health care, education and literacy programmes.
The summit is expected bring together representatives of rural women's organizations with experiences on implementation of rural development programmes from all the nine provinces.
