Students urged to verify private colleges

Friday, January 17, 2014

Pretoria - The Department of Higher Education and Training has urged students, parents and guardians to ensure that the institutions they enrol with are legally registered.

This as the department is inundated with complaints from students who have fallen prey to bogus, illegal or unregistered private Further Education and Training (FET) colleges.

The department encouraged people to call the toll-free number, 0800 87 2222, to make sure the institution is recognised and registered.

Students can check for themselves the registration status of any private FET college by logging on to: www.dhet.gov.za.

Any private college that offers occupational and trades qualifications must provide proof of accreditation by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) or a relevant body. – SAnews.gov.za
