Mafikeng - Students studying at the Mafikeng Campus of the University of the North West have pledged their support for the national soccer team during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Bafana Bafana will play against New Zealand on 17 June at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

Tshegofatso Mashi, 22, a Bcom Student said she would be getting her tickets to the match before the end of the week.

"I want to show everyone that I love my country and my province by attending all the Bafana Bafana games with my friends.

"I will also wear the Bafana Bafana jersey at the stadium to show my patriotism for the national team. I already bought the jersey last month."

The 22-year-old further wished Bafana Bafana well for the tournament.

Wearing a T-shirt with the South African flag printed on it, Didintle Gaopepe said while he supported the team, he hoped they were training hard to make South Africa proud.

The Bcom student said it was great that South Africans were getting behind the team as it would be this enthusiasm that would inspire them to do well.

Ofentse Selepe, 24, a Public and Marketing student at the university said she had already bought her tickets and could not wait for the Confederations to get underway.

"I have bought tickets for myself and my friends and we are ready. We will support our national team until the end," he said.

Another student, Parick Moeng, said he had previously only watched Bafana Bafana matches on television and was excited to watch them at a live match.

The 23-year-old said: "I am a proud supporter of our national team, I normally watch them play only on television, but this time I am going to watch them from the stands at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium."

Matched will be played at Loftus stadium in Pretoria, Coca Cola Park in Johannesburg, Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein and the Royal Bafokeng in Rustenburg.
