Pretoria - The Department of Energy has called on stakeholders and the public to participate in the Integrated Energy Plan (IEP) and the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) public consultation workshops that are currently underway.
“The aim of the workshops is to guide future energy infrastructure investments over the period up to 2050, identify and recommend policy options to shape the future energy landscape of the country,” the department said on Tuesday.
This as the workshops kicked off at the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Last month, Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson published the IEP as well as the IRP plans for public comment.
The purpose of the IEP is to provide a roadmap of the future energy landscape for South Africa, which guides the future energy infrastructure investments and policy development. Two of the objectives identified in the IEP are minimising the cost of energy and promoting the creation of jobs and localisation.
The next workshop will be held by the department on Friday at the Olive Convention Centre, in Durban.
This will be followed by the ICC in Cape Town next Tuesday, while the last session will be held at the Sun International Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday.
