Social workers to visit family of slain woman

Friday, May 12, 2017

Pretoria - Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza has dispatched a team of social workers to visit the family of Karabo Mokoena to assist them with psychosocial support.

Mokoena was allegedly killed by her boyfriend Sandile Mantsoe, who appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The case was postponed to May 24.

Mokoena was reported missing last month and police arrested Mantsoe on Thursday.

The team of social workers is expected to visit the family on Friday to assess the interventions that may be required to help them to deal with the loss of Mokoena.

“The Gauteng Provincial Government is saddened by this senseless killing. This is a clearest indication that society needs to participate more in preventing social crimes such as violence against women and children.

“We can continue to enforce the law as government and care for victims of gender-based violence, but if families and communities do not get involved and help prevent social crimes we will not win this war,” MEC Mayathula-Khoza said. - SAnews.gov.za
