The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has reached a settlement with senior official Vlok Symington.
The Revenue Service on Tuesday said all parties have agreed to bring all legal and other related proceedings against each other to an end.
”The parties agreed, in good faith, to bring all legal and other related proceedings against each other, including disciplinary charges against Mr Symington and Mr Thabo Titi, the bodyguard of SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane, to an end.
“These arose from an incident that took place at the premises of SARS on 18 October 2016,” said SARS.
In 2016, media reported that Symington was allegedly held against his will by the Hawks and Titi in one of the boardrooms at SARS. He had allegedly refused to give them documentation that was sent to him by mistake.
The statement comes following last Friday’s decision by the North Gauteng High Court to grant an order to give effect to a settlement agreement between SARS and Symington.
The revenue service said the events leading up to the incident, the incident itself and the disciplinary charges that arose from the incident against Symington and Titi have been reviewed.
“Both parties have agreed that it would be in the best interest of all that these matters be settled. In granting the order, the Honourable Mr Justice Louw welcomed the fact that the parties have reached an amicable resolution without the need for further litigation.
“All parties are now looking forward to continue working towards fulfilling the mandate of SARS and restoring public trust and credibility to this important fiscal institution,” said SARS.
Earlier this month, the Presidency announced that Moyane, who was suspended by President Cyril Rampahosa in March, had been served with disciplinary charges. - SAnews.gov.za
