Pretoria - The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has made two busts worth R5.5 million at the weekend.
In the first incident on Saturday, SARS Customs officials intercepted a male traveller going to Dubai trying to smuggle R3.9 million at the King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
“The traveller was profiled for a routine check where scanned bags were found with currency [to the value of] R3 972 400. The man was handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation,” said the revenue service on Monday.
In the second incident also on Saturday, a detector dog sniffed hair shampoo bottles filled with 6kg cocaine estimated at R1.7 million at OR Tambo International Airport
The shipment was handed over to the SAPS for further investigation. – SAnews.gov.za
