SARS makes R2.5m drug bust at OR Tambo

Pretoria - Drugs worth an estimated R2.5 million were seized at OR Tambo International Airport, said the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

The drugs were seized over the weekend.

“In the first of the two incidents, unaccompanied luggage from Lagos to Johannesburg was found to contain 6.5kg of crystal methamphetamine worth R1 920 000,” said SARS on Monday.

In the second incident, unaccompanied luggage that also arrived from Lagos, Nigeria, was found containing 2kg of cocaine worth R575 400.

“Both consignments are in the custody of the South African Police Service for further investigation,” said the revenue service. – SAnews.gov.za
