Pretoria - South African Airways (SAA) will provide an extra flight to East London this Saturday, following an increased demand on the Johannesburg to East London route.
“The deployment of an additional flight on Saturday, 14 June, is over and above the airline’s existing frequencies to East London, and is intended to assist passengers who would like to travel to the Eastern Cape to attend the funeral service of the late Epainette Mbeki, the mother of former state president Thabo Mbeki,” said the airline on Wednesday.
The additional flight will be a commercially operated flight in accordance with the normal conditions of carriage by SAA. The flight (SA3473) will depart at 5:30am on Saturday and land at 7am in East London in the Eastern Cape.
SA3478 will depart East London at 6pm and arrive in Johannesburg at 7:30pm.
MaMbeki, who was the wife of late struggle icon Govan Mbeki, passed away on Saturday at an East London hospital, after a short illness.
She has been afforded a special provincial official funeral.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at the funeral in Idutywa. He will be accompanied by Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on State Funerals, Jeff Radebe.
