Pretoria - South African Airways has strengthened its network into Central Africa by introducing flights to Pointe Noire in the DRC, it said on Monday.
The flights to Pointe Noire began on 26 January.
"This welcome addition to the airline's ever expanding route network on the continent offers its customers further access into Central Africa. SAA will be operating to 21 cities on the continent with the commencement of this service," said the national airline.
Pointe Noire joins three other cities -- Ndola in Zambia, Kigali in Rwanda, and Bujumbura in Burundi -- as the airline's most recent additions to its route network on the African continent.
Two flights a week will go out to the city with a narrow body aircraft, the A319, which offers a total 120 seats.
Briefing Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises in October 2011, SAA chief executive Siza Mzimela said she was confident SAA was positioned for growth in the future as it would continue to launch new passenger and cargo routes.
"SAA is committed to delivering its strategic objectives for the state, including facilitating trade and economic development in an environmentally and socially responsible manner," said Mzimela at the time.
