Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is on Wednesday expected to host his Zambian counterpart, President Edgar Lungu, who will be in the capital on a three-day State visit.
“The visit is aimed at deepening and strengthening the already existing good political, economic and social relations underpinned by strong historical ties dating back from the years of the struggle,” the Presidency said on Monday.
The two Heads of State will hold a series of bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation between the countries. They will also address the business forum, which will be attended by more than 150 business captains from both countries.
Economic relations between South Africa and Zambia continues to grow, with the 2015 two-way trade statistics indicating that Zambia is one of South Africa’s top trading partners on the continent. Zambia is also ranked as South Africa’s top ten import sources in the world.
The two countries cooperate in a variety of areas including trade and investment, science and technology, defence, agriculture, environment, energy, as well as health related matters.
There are over 120 South African companies doing business in Zambia in various sectors, including telecommunications, aviation, tourism, banking, property, retail, entertainment and fast food. - SAnews.gov.za
