SA, Spain to hold 10th annual consultations

Pretoria – South Africa and Spain will hold their 10th annual consultations in Madrid.

International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Luwellyn Landers will today lead a South African delegation to the Spanish capital, where he will co-chair the consultations with the Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ignacio Ybáñez Rubio.

The annual consultations provide an opportunity for South Africa and Spain to strengthen relations on a wide range of issues in bilateral, political and economic matters.  

The engagements between the two principals will include bilateral discussions which were preceded by a Senior Officials Working Group meeting on Thursday. 

South Africa and Spain will continue to exchange views and strengthen cooperation on issues of global concern.  

The meeting will also review a number of bilateral agreements and some that are currently being negotiated between the two countries. 

Trade between South Africa and Spain increased substantially from R15.6 billion in 2009 to R29 billion in 2014.  

Spain has become a major investor in the South African economy, especially in the renewable energy sector. – SAnews.gov.za
