President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent condolences to the government and people of Indonesia following the flash floods and landslides which killed 73 people.
The floods in Indonesia's eastern province of Papua at the weekend forced more than 4 500 people to flee their homes.
The disaster destroyed over 400 houses, over 100 buildings, bridges, schools and religious buildings.
Joint rescue teams continue to search for the missing people.
President Ramaphosa said he is saddened by the loss of lives and sent his deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured.
Indonesia has been frequently stricken by flash floods and landslides during heavy rains.
Indonesia is South Africa’s strategic partner. They are the only countries in Africa and South East Asia respectively that are members of the G20.
The two countries also Co-Chair the New Africa-Asia Strategic Partnership (NAASP).
In 2015, the total volume of bilateral trade between South Africa and Indonesia was R11.7 billion, with R2.8 billion exports from South Africa and R8.9 billion imports from Indonesia. - SAnews.gov.za
