The South African government has expressed concern at reports of missing Saudi Arabian journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared while in Istanbul, Turkey, two weeks ago.

International media reports have relayed how Khashoggi was killed minutes after he arrived at the building to pick up marriage paperwork on 2 October. Several reports have suggested that the journalist was beaten, drugged and killed brutally.

“Government welcomes the ongoing diplomatic interaction between the Republic of Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the investigation which seeks to get to the bottom of this matter.

“We trust that this investigation will provide clarity and answers regarding the disappearance of Khashoggi,” the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) said in a statement.

Dirco said the South African government shall remain seized with this matter through diplomatic channels. – SAnews.gov.za
