Pretoria - South African décor is back on permanent display at an American exhibition market as part of efforts by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) to broaden the participation of small business in the economy.

The department has re-established a permanent showroom at Atlanta’s AmericasMart Showrooms in Georgia following a five-year absence. The showroom will showcase home décor and textile products made by South African small businesses and cooperatives.

“This is one of the dti interventions to broaden the participation of SMMEs and cooperatives in the economy through global markets. The reinstatement of the showroom to this market has been widely welcomed - and the quality of the goods that have been put on display has been praised,” said the dti on Wednesday.

Among the businesses showcasing their work is Bayede! (meaning ‘hail the king’ in isiZulu) Royal Signature Textiles from KwaZulu-Natal. Some of the products on display include sets of ottomans and coffee tables made out of recycled tyres made by Ozzys Eco Decor.

Deputy Trade Minister Elizabeth Thabethe said she was impressed by the talent and skills that were on display. - SAnews.gov.za
