SA COVID-19 cases rise to 744 732

The number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 744 732, while the death toll is sitting at 20 076.

Of the additional 65-recorded deaths, 37 are in the Eastern Cape, 18 in Free State, eight in the Western Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

“Of the 65 deaths, 17 are reported to have occurred in the last 48 hours,” Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 690 903 patients have recuperated to date, which pushes the recovery rate to 92.7%.

The Free State currently has the highest number of active cases at 9 297, followed by the Eastern Cape with 6 497, KwaZulu-Natal with 4 997 and the Western Cape with 4 915.

The Northern Cape has 3 602 active cases, North West 1 950, Gauteng 1 384, Mpumalanga 598 and Limpopo 513.

The data is based on 5 063 457 tests of which 25 675 were performed in the last 24 hours.

The World Health Organisation said, there are 51 848 261 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1 280 868 deaths to date. – SAnews.gov.za
