Pretoria – The South African government has condemned the wave of coordinated explosions in Thailand, which have resulted in the death of at least four people.
According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the explosions happened across multiple cities in southern Thailand, including the tourism hotspots of Trang, Surat Thani, Hua Hin and Phuket on Thursday and Friday.
President Jacob Zuma has expressed his condolences to His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, the government and people of Thailand, particularly the families of the deceased.
“South Africa stands firmly with the international community in condemning all forms of terrorism and stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Thailand as they mourn the death of their citizens,” the Department of International Relations and Cooperation said.
The department’s services division is in contact with the South African Embassy in Bangkok following the attacks to determine if any South African citizens have been affected.
