SA administers over 130 500 new COVID-19 vaccine doses

South Africa administered 130 514 COVID-19 vaccine doses on Wednesday, which pushed the total to 23 540 547.

According to the Department of Health, of the new distributed doses, 119 505 were given to adults, while 11 009 went to children aged between 12 and 17.

In addition, there are now 13 124 865 adults who are fully vaccinated, while 241 661 children have already received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 2 924 622 with 305 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the majority of new infections were logged in Gauteng (93), followed by Western Cape (51) and KwaZulu-Natal (42).

“This increase represents a 0.9% positivity rate,” the institute said, adding that hospital admissions increased by 33 people since the last reporting cycle.

According to the latest data, 48 more people lost their lives to the disease, bringing the death toll to 89 435.

The cumulative number of those who beat the virus now stands at 2 818 761 with a recovery rate of 96.4%.

Globally, as of 10 November 2021, there have been 250 715 502 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 5 062 106 deaths, reported to the World Health Organisation. – SAnews.gov.za
