Pretoria - Cabinet has called on all South Africans to participate in the upcoming celebration of the late former President Nelson Mandela Month in July.
In July, South Africa celebrates former President Nelson Mandela's birthday. The day, 18 July, has been declared Nelson Mandela International Day, but South Africans embrace the chance to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life for the whole of July.
This year’s Nelson Mandela Month will be celebrated under the theme “Make everyday a Mandela Day: Contributing 67 minutes of our time to help those in need”.
Speaking during a post Cabinet briefing on Thursday, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, said each South African holds the potential to expand on the legacy of Mandela by making a difference in the lives of others.
“In the spirit of Madiba’s legacy let us also work together as we mark Social Cohesion Month in July to develop a cohesive society by promoting the ideals of non-racialism, non-sexism, justice and equality for all as envisioned and espoused in our Constitution,” Minister Radebe said.
Meanwhile, in the spirit of Africa Public Service Week taking place from 22 to 26 June 2015, Cabinet thanked all public servants for their commitment, dedication and hard work in delivering service to South Africans.
It also called on all public servants to recommit themselves to meet the needs of all South Africans. – SAnews.gov.za
