Johannesburg - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has announced a plan to revive and develop Krugersdorp, Germiston and Vereeniging.
During her State of the Province Address earlier today, the Premier said a plan had already been developed, focusing on 23 projects related to housing and infrastructure to stimulate the commercial and retail sector.
Work will also include a taxi rank, refurbishing of dilapidated streets, formalisation of street trading areas and heritage tourism initiatives.
"The plan for the Germiston inner-city will transform the area into a modern city that will improve people's quality of life through better housing, transport, employment opportunities and arts and culture projects," Mokonyane said
She said plans were also afoot to rehabilitate townships, such as Bekkersdal, Winterveldt, Tembisa, Sweetwaters and Madelakufa.
Mokonyane said housing was still a challenge for the province, despite delivering 665 000 housing units since 1994.
Mokonyane said plans to speed up housing in the province are ongoing.
