Public invited to give tips on budget

Monday, December 6, 2010

Pretoria - Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is inviting South Africans to send him tips on what they would like to see government spending taxpayers money on in the country's next budget.

Gordhan will present the 2011 budget to Parliament on 23 February 2011. This will be his second budget presentation after his appointment last year.

Every year, the National Treasury invites all South Africans to send in their tips or proposals to the minister prior to his budget speech.

To date, more than 20 000 suggestions have been received by the department.

Once the tips have been received, the department chooses a few for the minister to read during the budget presentation.

The campaign was launched in 2001 under previous Finance Minister Trevor Manuel.

Tips can be sent via the National Treasury website at www.treasury.gov.za; faxed to 012-315-5126; or posted to Private Bag X115, Pretoria 0001.
