Pretoria trio in court on Wednesday

Pretoria – The three men arrested in Pretoria North last month will return to the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a formal bail application.

The men -- Moses Ndlovu, Johannes Phiri and Danford Gwanzi -- are strongly suspected of being part of a gang that terrorised communities in Kameeldrift, north of Pretoria, during which they robbed and stole from this farming community and those of the adjacent suburb of Sinoville, police said on Tuesday.

They were each found in possession of a firearm with as many as 30 rounds of live ammunition between them.

At the time they were arrested, the men -- all aged 23 -- were suspected of being on the way to commit another robbery.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, said they are in the country illegally.

Naidoo said one of the accused is linked to at least 16 other crimes such as house robbery, housebreaking and theft, and theft of and out of motor vehicles.

Other members of this group are still at large but the police are following all leads.

“The police are pleased that even as they are following additional leads, they already have a solid case against the three and they will positively link them to all of the crimes they have been charged for,” said Naidoo. - SAnews.gov.za
