Pretoria- President Jacob Zuma was on Sunday participating in the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Presidency said the Summit would discuss the political and security situation in Burundi.

Tanzanian President and current Chair of the East African Community, Jakaya Kikwete, invited President Zuma to participate in the Summit as Special Guest, in recognition of the role he played in the negotiations that succeeded in bringing peace and stability to Burundi, following the civil war in that country.

“President Zuma’s participation in the Summit is indicative of the high importance that the President and the South African Government placed on developments in Burundi.

“It will be recalled that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa represented President Zuma at the EAC Summit in Dar es Salaam on 13 May 2015,” said the Presidency.
