Monday, August 3, 2015

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will this afternoon visit the family of the slain Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) member, Simon Mabatamela.

Mabatamela was brutally killed in the line of duty at a shopping complex in Johannesburg during an armed robbery last week.

The robbery and killing was captured on CCTV and has drawn condemnation nationwide.

President Zuma will visit the Mabatamela family at their home in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, to provide support and offer his condolences on behalf of government and the people of South Africa.

The President has condemned in the strongest possible terms the killing of police officers in the past week and reiterated his call on all members of the public to work with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and the creation of safer communities.

“[President Zuma] has urged members of the public to come forward with information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals. President Zuma once again calls on law enforcement officers to defend themselves when attacked by criminals, within the ambit of the law,” said the Presidency.-SAnews.gov.za
