President Zuma meets new Brand SA board members

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Thursday met with the new members of the Brand South Africa Board of Trustees, where parties thrashed out a number of issues affecting the country.

Last month, President Zuma appointed the new members to help strengthen the South African brand identity locally and abroad.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Zuma said he had every confidence in the ability of the new board members.

"Brand South Africa knows what is expected of them," said the President.

Chairperson of Brand South Africa, Chichi Maponya, said the board members were equally dedicated to improving the country's image.

"As the board, we are going to work hard to ensure that we rightfully position the country.

"We had discussions on a number of issues which include key areas and the strategy for improving South Africa," said Maponya.

Deputy Minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Obed Bapela, who was also part of the meeting, called on South Africans to spread the good news about South Africa.

Bapela said there were a lot of positive things happening in the country.

"South Africans must be proud of their country," he said.

Brand South Africa was established in 2002 as the International Marketing Council to promote the South African brand.

The primary objective of Brand South Africa is to develop and implement a proactive and coordinated international marketing and communication strategy for South Africa. - SAnews.gov.za
