Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday met with Vha-Venda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana to discuss the situation at Vuwani, in Limpopo.
The tense situation in Vuwani continues following a decision by the community to shut down services in the area after a dispute over municipal boundaries.
The shutdown had been organised by the pro-Makhado demarcation task team‚ a community body that is opposed to the inclusion of their areas into the new municipality known as Collins Chabane Local Municipality.
According to the community, the shutdown of all services‚ including transport and government services‚ will continue until the grievances of the people of Vuwani has been attended to.
The Presidency on Wednesday said the meeting was convened at the request of the King, who expressed concern about the situation in Vuwani.
King Ramabulana was accompanied by traditional leaders from the area and President Zuma was accompanied by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Vuwani and provincial leadership led by Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha.
“The leaders raised concern about the deteriorating situation in Vuwani and emphasised that urgent steps needed to be taken to normalise the situation.
“The President and the King appealed to parents to enable learners to return to school while the challenges raised by the community are being addressed,” said the Presidency.
The Presidency said the King and the President will this weekend address the public in Vuwani on the decisions that were taken at the meeting. - SAnews.gov.za
