Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma departed Jamaica on Saturday for a working visit at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Portia Simpson Miller.
This will be the President's first working visit to that country.
The President is expected to join in the year-long celebrations in Jamaica to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that country's independence as well as hold bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister.
"Jamaica is an important member of the African Diaspora and South Africa recognises especially the role played by Jamaica in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. South Africa is proud to celebrate Jamaica's achievements as an independent, stable and constitutional parliamentary democracy," said the Presidency.
The Presidency added that Zuma will be accompanied by Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Collins Chabane and International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Marius Fransman.
