President Zuma attends SADC Summit

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Saturday attended the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extra-Ordinary Summit in Maputo, Mozambique.

The Extra-Ordinary Summit in Maputo was appraised of progress with regard to the facilitation process in Zimbabwe. In particular, consideration was given to a roadmap to elections following the successful referendum held in February, the Presidency said in a statement.

The African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government held their Summit in May 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and considered progress in the implementation of decisions made during the Organ Troika Summit held in Cape Town on 10 May 2013, in relation to the security and political situation in the region.

The meeting agreed to hold an urgent Special Summit on Zimbabwe before the elections and urged the Zimbabwe authorities to submit their financial requirements for the elections during the proposed Summit.

According to the Presidency, the Extra-Ordinary Summit also reflected on the latest developments in Madagascar. – SAnews.gov.za
