President Zuma to assess developments in Muyexe

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is in Muyexe, Giyani in Limpopo today to assess progress on the developments in the village.

The village was declared a pilot project under the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) in 2009 and the President’s visit is part of the Presidency’s performance monitoring and evaluation programme.

Muyexe village is the Presidency’s pilot project where government would apportion resources to improve the lives of the community and address underdevelopment under the CRDP programme.

The CRDP is Strategic Priority Number 3 within the government's current Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF). The programme was hailed as a critical response to the challenge of rural development, addressing basic human needs, as well as the provision of social and economic infrastructure and the development of small and medium enterprises, using an agri-village model. Under the agri-village model, housing, sanitation, health, education and other basic services are provided to agricultural villages.

President Zuma first declared his intention to improve the living conditions in the area in his 2009 State of the Nation Address (SONA). During his address, he expressed concern over the lack of development in the area; in particular that it had no basic services like water, electricity, roads and housing.

Zuma will thus monitor progress in the area since the announcement.

He will conduct site visits to Muyexe Thusong Service Centre, the Muyexe Early Childhood Development Centre, Macena Gardens, followed by the Muyexe Water Purification Plant and Reservoir, to evaluate progress made in the efforts to address the acute shortage of water in Muyexe.

The President will then engage with local residents at the Muyexe Sports Ground.

The President is accompanied by the Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi, Transport Minister Ben Dikobe, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Petterson and Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti.  – SAnews.gov.za
