President Cyril Ramaphosa has departed South Africa on a working visit to the Republic of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“President Ramaphosa will hold consultative meetings with President Edgar Lungu and President Joseph Kabila, respectively,” the Presidency said on Thursday.
According to the Presidency, the visits form part of a long-standing tradition in the SADC region whereby newly-elected Heads of State pay courtesy calls on the leaders of neighbouring countries.
During the visits, President Ramaphosa and his counterparts will discuss bilateral cooperation as well as political and security developments in the region and continent, as well as global issues of mutual concern.
President Ramaphosa will no longer stopover in the Republic of Zimbabwe but will attend the inauguration of President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday, 12 August 2018.
The President is accompanied by Ministers Lindiwe Sisulu of International Relations and Cooperation and Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba of State Security. – SAnews.gov.za
