President Ramaphosa welcomes ConCourt ruling on Mkhwebane's suspension

Thursday, July 13, 2023

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Office says he welcomes the judgment by the Constitutional Court affirming his adherence to due process and fairness in suspending Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

“The suspension followed the decision by the National Assembly to institute Section 194 proceedings against Advocate Mkhwebane,” the brief statement read on Thursday.

In a unanimous judgment, the highest court in the land found that there was a rational reason and that the President “stood to gain nothing” for him to precautionary suspend Mkhwebane.

The apex court’s ruling reverses the Western Cape High Court judgment that found that President Ramaphosa's decision was unlawful and invalid in September last year. – SAnews.gov.za
