Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of South Africa’s legendary musician, Ricardo Groenewald.

The Presidency on Thursday said Groenewald, who was one of the country’s first child stars, succumbed to cancer on Wednesday in Cape Town.

“He would be remembered for his hit song ‘I love you daddy’, which was released in 1987 when the singer was only eight years old,” said the Presidency.

“His family should find solace in the fact that this talented performer warmed many hearts with his soulful music and excelled way beyond his age when he began his musical career.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and all fans of Mr Groenewald,” said President Zuma. - SAnews.gov.za
