President meets Finance Minister ahead of Budget Speech

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma met with Finance Minister Pravin Ghordan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas on Tuesday in Cape Town, ahead of the 2016 Budget Speech.

After the meeting, the Presidency said it was all systems go for the tabling of the Budget. The meeting was used to discuss the final touches to the Budget, which Minister Gordhan will deliver later this afternoon.

President Zuma has already announced that government will be trimming unnecessary travel and entertainment in order to save costs.

"It's a difficult year and a difficult period globally and locally due to the economic slowdown. The Minister and his team have done their best and the Budget to be presented [today] on our behalf as Cabinet is good for the country and good for the economy. It's all systems go for the Budget,” said President Zuma. - SAnews.gov.za
