President congratulates Kevin Paul on winning gold

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has congratulated South African Paralympic swimmer, Kevin Paul, for winning South Africa’s first gold medal at the 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Paul won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke when he finished in 1:04.86 to hand Team South Africa their first medal at the Paralympics Games.

It was also the 25-year-old athlete’s first gold medal for the country.

“South Africa is extremely proud of Kevin Paul for this remarkable achievement and we hope it will encourage his team mates and other young athletes representing the country in Rio to win more medals,” said President Zuma.

The President wished Team South Africa all the best and thanked the people of South Africa for their continued support of the country’s athletes. – SAnews.gov.za
