Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has conveyed his condolences to the family of Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on the passing of his mother, Masefaku Sophia Motlanthe.
"The nation's thoughts and prayers are with the Deputy President's family at this sad moment. I wish to convey, on behalf of government and the people of South Africa, our deepest words of condolence. May her soul rest in peace,” said President Zuma on Monday.
The Deputy President's mother passed away on Friday, of natural causes at her home in Meadowlands, Soweto. She was 89-years-old.
A memorial service would be held on Thursday and a funeral service on Saturday.
She died a day before Motlanthe’s wedding to long-term partner Gugu Mtshali in Houghton, Johannesburg. – SAnews.gov.za
