Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will on Tuesday meet with the vice-chancellors of higher education institutions of the country at the Union Buildings.
The meeting, according to the Presidency, will discuss the situation in several campuses.
“The University Council Chairpersons Forum-South Africa and the Universities South Africa have requested to see the President to discuss the heightened tensions in some campuses.”
In recent months, the learning at some universities has been disrupted by protesting students.
In March this year, students at the University of Cape Town began protesting when they demanded the statue of colonialist Cecil John Rhodes be removed.
While in Stellenbosch, a documentary featuring students at the university complaining about racism caused uproar and calls for transformation.
Last month, the University of KwaZulu-Natal suspended all academic programmes at its campuses following a violent student protest which saw the administration block and two cars torched.
Just last week, in Tshwane University of Technology, students disrupted classes when they protested, among others, against the National Student Financial Aid Scheme funding and accommodation. - SAnews.gov.za
