Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Banyana Banyana striker Portia Modise, who was crowned as the 2014 SA Sports Star of the Year at last night’s SA Sport Awards.
“Modise is the first African player to reach the elusive 100-goal mark in international football. She was crowned the 2014 South Africa Sports Star of the Year at the SA Sports Awards on Sunday, 30 November 2014,” said the President on Monday.
The President also took the time to congratulate Francine Muyumba, the newly elected President of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU).
Muyumba, who is from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was voted in as President at the weekend following a two-day PYU Congress in Boksburg in Gauteng.
She replaced Yershen Pillay, the chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency, who led the PYU proficiently since his assumption of office.
"We congratulate these inspirational young African women on their sterling achievements and hope that they will serve as beacons for all other young African women to follow in their footsteps and achieve their goals and dreams,” said President Zuma. - SAnews.gov.za
