Prepaid electricity glitch resolved

Pretoria - Eskom customers can now buy prepaid electricity tokens after the recent problems with the company's online prepaid electricity vending systems have been resolved.

"We sincerely apologise to our customers. We would like to assure our customers and vendors that we are closely monitoring the system to ensure that we pick up problems and act timeously. It is therefore not necessary for customers to buy in bulk," Divisional Executive for Group Customer Services at Eskom, Tsholofelo Molefe, said on Tuesday.

Technicians at the power parastatal worked throughout the night to resolve the problem with the system now being stabilised, allowing customers to purchase prepaid electricity.

Eskom urged consumers to be patient as the system might be slow because of increased volumes caused as a result of some customers not being able to buy their prepaid electricity token at the weekend.

The parastatal has launched an assessment into the matter.
