Power supply restored at Vaalkop waterworks

Pretoria – Power supply at Vaalkop water treatment works, which was cut following the recent rains, has been restored, the Moses Kotane Local Municipality announced on Thursday.

The water treatment works experienced a power supply cut in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Rainwater got into some of main switchgears, which were burned in the process, resulting in a complete power supply cut to the entire waterworks.

“Pumping systems that supply Moses Kotane, Rustenburg and Thabazimbi local municipalities, the mines, Sun City and other consumers supplied from Vaalkop waterworks were off due to assessment and maintenance works done by Eskom to restore power supply,” said municipal spokesperson Beauty Makganye.

Makganye said the power supply has been restored and pumping systems were back on track by Wednesday afternoon.

However, due to empty reservoir levels caused by high demand, it might take longer to restore water supply to consumers.

“The municipality apologises unreservedly for the inconvenience caused. Consumers will be regularly updated on the developments,” Makganye said. – SAnews.gov.za
