Cape Town - Communications Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Ismail Vadi, says the committee is prepared to hold interviews for the new SABC board.

"All is in place for the interviews," Vadi told BuaNews ahead of the committee's interviews.

A total of 31 candidates have been put forward to serve on the broadcaster's 12-member permanent board. They were shortlisted from a list of 230 nominees and include Tselane Tambo, daughter of late former ANC president Oliver Tambo, former SABC journalists Max du Preez and Pippa Green and politician Suzanne Vos, among others.

Interviews will begin on Tuesday and end on Thursday, with an average of ten candidates being interviewed per day.

"The interim board will serve their term until the first week of January 2010. Following due processes of recommending 12 people, the board should be in place by the time the interim board's term expires," said Vadi.

The committee requires that board members reflect skills in finance, journalism as well as a commitment to freedom of independence among some of its requirements
