Pretoria - Police on Thursday seized a rocket head and arrested two men in a raid in downtown Johannesburg.

Acting on a tip-off, police say they found a South African and a Mozambican seated in a grey Mercedes Benz in the CBD.

“Upon searching the vehicle, the head of a rocket, valued at approximately R8 million, was found,” police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said on Thursday.

While at the scene, Makgale said police were also attracted to a second vehicle, which they searched and found three men carrying diamonds that are believed to be of foreign origin.

“The three men were taken in for questioning and the diamonds confiscated for now,” said Makgale.

It is unknown at this stage if the two groups are related in any way.

The two suspects in connection with the rocket head will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of unlawful possession of explosives.

The investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely. – SAnews.gov.za
