Police Minister reflects on McBride ruling

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Pretoria - Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko says he has noted the judgment delivered by the Constitutional Court on Tuesday regarding the suspension of Robert McBride.

“The Minister is reflecting on its implications. It must be noted that the court made a judgment on the procedural aspects of the case and not on the merits of the allegations against Mr Robert McBride,” the Police Ministry said on Tuesday.

The Constitutional Court set aside with costs the suspension of McBride, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), head by Minister Nhleko.

The court ruled that McBride’s suspension is both unlawful and unconstitutional.

McBride was suspended in March 2015 over his alleged involvement in the illegal rendition of five Zimbabwean murder suspects. – SAnews.gov.za
