Pretoria - Gauteng police have said they will track down the gunmen who shot and killed a member of the Gauteng Traffic Police Anti-hijacking Unit on Wednesday night.

The officer was gunned down in Kliprivier on Wednesday, after stopping his red VW Polo on the R558 near the Heidelberg turn-off to confront a vehicle parked there.

"Two of three men got out as he was walking towards their vehicle. The two men tried to disarm the officer when they got to him and during the scuffle he was shot dead," said Vereeniging police spokesperson Captain Shado Mashobane.

Captain Mashobane said the name of the police member could not be released yet.

No arrests have been made, but Captain Mashobane said police would stop at nothing to bring the suspects to book.

Police are also hunting for two suspects who killed a 24-year-old intern social worker outside the Alexandra Clinic in northern Johannesburg last night.

Apparently Bianca Walburton was shot as she drove out of the clinic by hijackers trying to steal her car.
